In this section, I describe some Tails OS hacks that I have used to make Tails OS more useful as an everyday operating system for general use. THESE HACKS WEAKEN THE SECURITY OF TAILS OS. And that brings us to an important point: Tails OS is NOT designed to be a general-use operating system for normal everyday use. Tails OS is really designed to be booted temporarily from a USB thumb drive, used for a discrete Internet session, and then powered down. Tails OS is designed with people living under the oppression of totalitarian governments in mind. If you do not live in a totalitarian state or in a living situation in which your Internet is actively censored, Tails OS is an EXTREMELY limited operating system that will not fit the bill as a general-use everyday OS.
However, there are use cases where a person may want to experiment with Tails OS from the safety of a liberal democratic state. Additionally, there are use cases where a person may enjoy the sheer simplicity of an extremely small operating system and prefer the privacy offered by the Tor network for philosophical reasons, even if that person is not engaged in illicit activities. The hacks that follow are designed for people who have good reasons to employ them, have thought long and hard about the risks and consequences of employing them, and decided that the benefits outweigh the risks.
